Election results will be transmitted to IReV, INEC assures

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that results from the Edo State governorship election would be transmitted to its viewing portal, the IReV, as the collation of results has commenced across various centres.

The resident electoral commissioner (REC) in Edo State, Anugbum Onuoha, gave the assurance during an interview with Arise Television on Saturday, September 21.

Confirming that the governorship election results would be transmitted on the viewing portal, Onuoha, however, said only a poor network could hinder the electoral body from transmitting the results electronically.

“You know that we have 4,519 polling units across the 18 local governments, and so far, we have deployed 4,622 BVAs to the various local governments. And we also have a backup of 660 BVAs.

“We have trained the operators for the BVAs. They are set. BVAs is to accredit the voters, to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level, that polling unit.”

He stressed that when voting has been concluded, INEC officers would count the results, and the results would be uploaded to the IReV.

“That is the state we are now. So, be rest assured that we’ll conduct an election that we can call our own,” Onuoha assured.

In the 2023 general elections, the INEC assured Nigerians it would expeditiously upload polling unit results directly through the IREV portal as part of its guidelines for the election.

However, the commission later admitted encountering difficulties in uploading the results from the polling units to the commission’s portal.

It attributed the failure to technical glitches as the IReV was unable to be effective in real-time for results viewing.
