Five people have been confirmed dead and 12 others injured after a vehicle laden with explosive devices went off in Azare Motor Park in Bauchi State, in Nigeria’s north eastern region.
The Bauchi State police public relations officer, Haruna Muhammad, who confirmed the incident, said the explosion occurred at 9:45PM on Wednesday.
Muhammad said the dead victims were burnt beyond recognition, while the 12 who sustained various degree of injuries are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center, Azare.
He further said that the scene of the explosion has been cordoned off by a police Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit.
Wednesday’s bomb blast made it the third time Azare town has come under attack from Boko Haram terrorists.
The terrorist group destroyed a police station and some commercial banks in Azare on the December 5, 2011.
They returned to the town with another attack on the December 3, 2012.
This recent attack on the town is coming barely a week after the federal government announced a ceasefire negotiations with the Boko Haram sect, which it said would lead the release of the kidnapped Chibok girls.
