THE immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera, a lawyer, has said that he left behind a strong institution as he bowed to President Bola Tinubu’s order sacking him as the FCCPC boss.
Irukera expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve Nigerians through the organisation in a message on his official X page, shortly after his sack on Monday, January 9.
“Grateful for the opportunity to have served the incredibly vibrant and loyal Nigerian citizens/consumers. They deserve a better deal.
“I leave behind a strong institutional advocate in the FCCPC and an outstanding team of soldiers who work there daily for the cause of fair markets”, he said.
Irukera was appointed in 2017 as the director-general of what then was the Consumer Protection Council before it was later renamed as the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
In response to his posts, Nigerians lauded him for a well-done job, his contribution and his devotion to the organisation, and wished him well.
An X user, @udeochusp said “Weldone, sir. You were phenomenal and added so much value and covering for Nigerian consumers. We appreciate you and wish you well wherever you find yourself serving humanity. PROSPER.”
Another user, @WESTCURATOR_ said, “You’ve written your name on a sand of time, history will be kind to you, and it will not forget you in a hurry. Thank you for your service, sir.”
Tinubu dismissed Irukera and the chief executive officer of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Alexander Ayoola Okoh, on Monday, January 8.
