An aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the last governorship primary in Kogi State, Jibrin Isa Echocho, and the son of the immediate past governor of the state, Mohammed Ibrahim Idris, have dumped the ruling party in the state for the All Progressives Congress, APC..
With the November 21 – the date for the Kogi State Governorship election around the corner, the PDP big chieftains and their supporters were happily received with cheers and jubilation by the APC.
While receiving the decampees, the leader and gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Abubakar Audu, expressed the belief that the exit of Echocho, a popular politician close to the people at the grassroots, heralds the end of the PDP in the state.
Audu said that he return to the Lugard House is for development while assuring that he would be the first governor to effect the shift of power to another district in 2019 if elected.
The former two-time governor vowed that he would never upon his return harass or intimidate any Kogi citizen by using the police or anti-corruption agency against them.
The governorship aspirant promised to create jobs and bring an end to youth restlessness in the state and indicated plans to borrow funds from the capital market to revive the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company which in turn will provide jobs.
He condemned the activities of the current government in the payment of 30% salary to the civil servants and local government workers, assuring that he would put an end to such practice and clear outstanding arrears if elected.
Giving reasons for his move, Echocho admitted he that decided to dump the PDP after it failed to put things right in its ranks, stressing that the return of Audu was divinely ordained. He appealed to all elders and youths in the state to vote for the APC candidate in the forthcoming election.
Among the other defectors are former Dangana Ochaja, Tom Zakari, Adamu Sani, Ada Zigo and some immediate past local government council chairmen.
