Lion attacks worker to death at Obasanjo library zoo

THE Ogun State Police command announced on Sunday, September 29 2024 that Babaji Daule, a 35-year-old zoo employee at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, had been killed by a lion on Saturday, 28 2024.

This was revealed in a statement  to journalists on Sunday by Omolola Odutola, the state police command’s spokesperson.

It was reported that the lion handler, who was born in Bauchi State, had not locked and barred the lion’s cage before going to feed the animal.

This gave the lion the opportunity to flee and attack the handler, inflicting injuries to his neck and ultimately leading to his demise.

It was reported that the wild lion was shot to break free from its hold on the handler as the victim’s body was removed and transported to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital.

Earlier in February, it was reported that a zookeeper at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Olabode Olawuyi, was attacked as he was feeding the lions, and his colleagues were unable to save him as one of the lions had already fatally wounded him.
