Following the apprehension that gripped Zaki Biam, Benue State, on account of the death of a soldier, the Nigeria military has assured residents that it is not planning a reprisal attack.

One soldier and a policeman were on Tuesday killed, when troops responding to a distress call were ambushed by a notorious gang operating along Zaki Biam/ Katsina Ala Road. The death of the soldier sparked rumours of a military revenge, which made some residents lee their homes.

Defence spokesperson, Major General Chris Olukolade, in a statement, said no civilian will be harassed unnecessarily and assured that the gang, which made away with items, would be traced.

“The military authorities in the locality have assured that while every effort was being made to track down  the armed gang that have been operating in the area before the  incidence,  no civilian will be unduly harassed.

“Normalcy has been restored as the military and police patrol continues in the area,” Olukolade said
