The Ondo State deputy governor, Ali Olanusi, was impeached Monday by the members of the State House of Assembly.
The motion for his impeachment was moved by the majority leader, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, from Ondo West 11 and seconded by Olatunji Dauro, representing Owo 11.
The plenary session was attended by 24 out of the 26 members of the House including the Speaker, Jumoke Akindele.
Two members of the House belonging to the opposition party, All Progressive Congress, APC, Gbenga Edema and Fola Olasehinde, were not at the sitting.
The Speaker ruled that all government properties in the custody of the impeached official should be retrieved by the permanent secretary by all lawful means.
The seven man panel of investigation set up by the State Chief Judge, Olasehinde Kumuyi, had earlier in the day submitted its report to the House.
It would be recalled that Olanusi had on March 26 defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The deputy governor had earlier defected with the state governor, Segun Mimiko, from the Labour Party, on whose platform they were elected to the PDP.
Last week, Olanusi said he was assaulted by suspected thugs whom he said tried to stop him from gaining entrance to the Government House.
