Police Chief Orders Increased Security Around Media Houses

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has ordered that more security be provided at major media houses in the country.
Arase gave the order in a press statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Force spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, an acting commissioner of police.
The police boss expressed deep concern over the recent attacks suffered by some media houses and reporters in parts of the country.

The statement noted that the directive was in line with the mandate of the force to protect lives and property of the citizens under the law, journalists’ inclusive.
Arase described the media as an institution which had played a valuable role in the enthronement of democracy in the country. He however advised all citizens to be extra vigilant as they go about their day to day activities.
He advised citizens to be proactive and also report any suspicious movement or persons to the police.
