Police Deploys DIG To Ekiti Ahead Of Governorship Election

The Inspector-General of Police, IG, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed the Deputy Inspector General, DIG, Operations, Mike Zuokumor, to relocate to Ekiti State to coordinate security for the governorship election holding June 21.

The IG’s directive is contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, a chief superintendent of Police on Friday.

Abubakar has also directed Zuokumor to ensure that there is adequate police presence in all the polling units and collation centres in the state.

He warned troublemakers to steer clear of Ekiti State throughout the election as the police would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone who flouted the order no matter the status in the society.

The IG assured the people of readiness of police and other security agencies to provide adequate security to ensure smooth and orderly conduct of the election.

He, however, charged the personnel assigned to election duties to work in line with the police’ Code of Conduct and international best practices.

Abubakar called on politicians and candidates in the election as well as stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a hitch-free poll.
