Police refute reports of voter registration disruption in Abuja

THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted reports that the ongoing voter registration exercise was disrupted by some persons in the Lugbe area of Abuja on Thursday.

A video which went viral on the social media showed a group of men preventing residents from registering for their permanent voter cards (PVCs) at Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe.

However, a statement released by the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command Oduniyi Omotayo described reports that voter registration was disrupted in the area as false.

“As at when we caught wave of the erroneous information, (at about 7:30 -8:00 am) the DPO, Lugbe, led a team of policemen men to the said venue.




     

     

    “Registration wasn’t going on or has not started as no one was found at the venue. This video is suspected to have been doctored or not dated recent,” the statement said.

    The Command urged residents to disregard the reports and desist from spreading false information.

    “We strongly urge members of the public to disregard the baseless news and to stop its promulgation.

    “While investigation is ongoing to find the source of the news, monitoring and surveillance continues on the scene,” the statement added.
