Men of the Intelligent Response Team, IRT, of the Nigerian police force, have nabbed a gang of kidnappers who had been terrorising Benue state.
The IRT squad was deployed by the Inspector General of Polic, IGP, Ibrahim Idris following series of complaints and petitions by citizens of the state.
The suspects include: 28 year-old Terna Lorlu aka Rocker, who is the gang leader; Ternenger Terwase aka Bishop, 29 years; Terungwa Abasuwa aka Bobby – 27 years and Oryina Bosua aka Man’U’ – 34 years.
Don Awuna, the Force Public Relations Officer said in a statement that the suspects “confessed to been behind several kidnappings and armed robbery attacks on innocent people in Benue State including the kidnap of an Indian expatriate.
Awuna also stated that the suspects confessed to “The kidnap of one Mr. Charles a business man at Adikpo, Kwande LGA and the kidnap of a prominent chief Tsegba in Gboko and the collection of a N5 million ransom paid to them before his release.”
“They also confessed to the kidnappings of several lecturers and businessmen in College of Education Katsina Ala and other neighbouring towns.”
The police spokesman said investigation is ongoing to arrest other members of the gang that are still at large.
“All suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of the investigation” he said.
The police advised members of the public “to be vigilant and continue to partner with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a crime free society.”
