Political thugs disrupt collection of PVCs in Osun community

SUSPECTED political thugs disrupted collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday.

Spokesperson of the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Olabisi Atanda confirmed the incident to The ICIR on Friday.

“The hoodlums did not let people obtain Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). No arrest yet but we are on the hunt for the hoodlums.

“There are no casualties as at this time you gave me the call.

“We (the police and the NSCDC) are in in a meeting as we speak with the INEC to know how to curb the situation,” she said.

There were reports that the thugs also invaded the secretariat of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.

But the Osun NSCDC spokesman said she was not aware of the invasion of the PDP secretariat in Ilesa West Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, has urged the people of the state to desist from selling their votes to politicians.

The governor alleged that a gubernatorial candidate was planning to buy votes.

He called on the people of the state to resist the plan.

The governor, who spoke while addressing his supporters at Ibokun in Obokun Local Government Area of the state, advised voters to collect money from those trying to buy their votes.

But he said they should still go ahead to vote for their preferred candidates.

He said, “We are not for fire-for-fire politics, and not for pound, euro game but we are to uphold a good democratic system.

    “They are coming out to reach the people of the state once a year like a masquerader; they are feeding the people of the state with deceit, so I urge you to reject them. Osun State should not be used as a test of governance with all the challenges facing the state.

    “The civil servants and pensioners are collecting full salaries before the end of every month.

    “With all the achievements we recorded in our first term, it is just a teaser of what we will deliver during the second term if you vote for me.

    “God has answered our prayer with the next president of Nigeria; he is a chore Yoruba man. Osun State election is a pointer to the general election, and we have delivered Ekiti State, Osun State is the next.”
