Remo Stars end Sporting Lagos unbeaten run, top NPFL table

REMO stars on Sunday, October 22, 2023,halted the unbeaten streak of debutant Sporting Lagos, after winning 2-1 in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match day four  fixture played in Ikenne, Ogun state.

Remo Stars who secured an away win at their last match against Bayelsa United in NPFL matchday three, continued with an impressive performance after they came back from a goal down to sit at the top of the league’s table with nine points.

The South-West derby which ushered in the old rivalry between elite clubs in Southwest, witnessed a shock in the 21st minute after the visitors- Sporting Lagos – took the lead through a shot by Jonathan Amuku.

The shock was relieved nine minutes later after the host- Remo stars restored parity through Franck Mawuena who scored after connecting a cross from Sodiq Ismail.

The resumption of the second half was delayed close to an hour due to downpour in Ikenne.

Eight minutes into the second half,  the hosts doubled the lead after Sikiru Alimi converted a spot to secure the victory for his team.

Other results

Niger Tornadoes compounded the woes of Bayelsa United after 1-0 defeat at Ahmadu Bello stadium. This is the third straight loss of  Bayelsa United. 

In Owerri, Heartland FC held a draw against Katsina United. It ended 1-1 while Kano Pillars secured a victory against Rivers United after pipping the visitor 1-0.




     

     

    In Ilorin, Kwara United forced a draw against  Rangers International which ended 1-1.

    Also, bottom-placed Akwa United played goalless against  Shooting Stars of Ibadan while Plateau United edged Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0.

    In Lafia Township Stadium, Lobi Stars remained unbeaten after defeating Abia Warriors, 2-0. Lobi Stars are currently on the second position on the league’s table with eight points.

     Bendel Insurance tasted their first defeat in the league of this season after they lost to Gombe United, 1-0 at the Gombe Township stadium, Pantami.
