Maiduguri came under siege early Friday as the military engaged terrorists in a massive shootout that is causing anxiety among residents of the town.
Information is still sketchy but three deafening explosions and sporadic shooting have been reported around the Giwa Barrack area of the city in what a resident says is an attempt by gunmen suspected to the Boko Haram insurgents to take over the military base.
There are also speculations that attacks might be launched in schools, as parents hurry from their workplaces to retrieve their wards.
Most residents are locked in their homes and other safe places to secure their lives just as military airplanes hover in the skies amidst sounds of gunshots.
The attack which started since about 7:20am is still on as at press time.
