Three Corp Members Nabbed For Stealing Voting Materials In Edo

By Jefferson Ibiwale, Benin

The police have arrested three youth corps members who served as ad-hoc staff for the Independent National Electoral  Commission, INEC, during the April 11 polls for stealing ballot papers and other sensitive voting materials.

The Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mike Igini, who made the disclosure while reviewing the performance of the commission during the 2015 general elections, said the corps members sold two packets of ballot papers for a sum of N40, 000.

He also said that two members of staff of the commission who could not account for election materials given to them were equally suspended.
Igini added that investigations had commenced to determine the level of complicity of the suspended staff.

Youth corps members were used nationwide for the elections by INEC as ad hoc staff in charge of accreditation and voting but there have been many cases of electoral fraud levelled against them in many part of the country.
