ATIKU Abubakar, former Vice President says he will end Boko Haram insurgency and other insecurity challenges facing the country within the shortest possible time if elected Nigerian president in 2019.
Atiku who is hoping to run for presidency next year as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate stated this on Tuesday while addressing PDP supporters at Forshams Hall, Maiduguri, Borno State.
“If elected as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will not allow any commander to tell me stories, we must end insurgency within shortest possible time because the insurgency has crippled everything in the Northeast,” he said
Wondering why the Federal Government has waged war against insurgency for nine years without headway, Atiku noted that “Nigeria ended its civil war in only two and half years despite the thick forest in the South-east.
According to him, insurgency is associated with poverty and Nigeria is one of the poorest nations in the world.
He said, if given the mandate, he will also address poverty which is dominant in the North East.
Atiku attributed the increasing cases herdsmen/ farmers clashes to bad governance under the present administration, noting that, unless Nigerians team up and vote against the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) government at National, state and local government levels, the situation the country found itself will be worst in near future.
Also speaking at the occasion, Gbenga Daniel, Director General, Atiku campaign Organization, said the former Vice President and his entourage were in Maiduguri as part of the ongoing consultation tour with PDP stakeholders across the country.
