GOVERNOR of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has explained why he dismissed the state’s commissioner for health, Adamu Sambo.
This was announced on Monday, September 9, during the swearing-in ceremony of the chief security officer and three new commissioners.
The governor noted that with the implementation of new local government legislation and the death of the former commissioner to the in the ministry of local government, his administration will no longer appoint a commissioner into that office.
In June, the state’s former commissioner for local government, Ahmed Jalam, died after he was involved in a car accident.
Also, two other commissioners resigned to seek local government chairmanship positions, while the chief security adviser was sacked.
Meanwhile, during the ceremony and the executive council meeting, the government noted that his reason for dismissing the health commissioner is to reduce the cost of governance.
“We are also here to fill the vacancy created as a result of the voluntary retirement of three commissioners so that at least every local government will be given parity and representation in the cabinet as required by the constitution.
“We have dropped the commissioner of health, because we have to reposition ourselves, thus reducing the cost of governance and shrinking the establishment for the government as well as implementing the supreme court judgment on local government.
“Henceforth, we will no longer have a commissioner for local government. We had to drop the former health commissioner not because he was found wanting but because we had to make a leadership decision. We wish him the best and will find a place for him in the government,” he said.
Sani Dambam was appointed to replace Adamu Sambo, while Zainab Babbatanka got appointed to take charge of women affairs, Mohammed Abdulkadir as the ministry of commerce, and Ahmed Abdurrahman as the chief security adviser.
