Ajuri Ngelale steps down as Tinubu’s spokesperson

THE special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, has stepped down from his position to focus on personal medical issues.

Ngelale said the decision was taken after significant consultations with his family over the past days as a vexatious medical situation had worsened.

He made this known in a statement issued on Saturday, September 7.

He added that he has sent a memo to the chief of staff (COS) to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to Ngelale, he has relinquished his roles as special presidential envoy on Climate Action and chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen

“While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonising decision — entailing a pause of my functions as the special adviser to the President on Media & Publicity and official spokesperson of the president; special presidential envoy on Climate Action, and chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen — was taken after significant consultations with my family over the past several days as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home.

“I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit. I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time,” Ngelale stated.

Tinubu approved the appointment of Ngelale as special adviser on media and publicity on Monday, July 31, 2023.

According to the statement by Willie Bassey, the then director of information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the appointment took effect from July 31, 2023, and would terminate at the end of this administration unless otherwise decided by the President.
