Despite Ceasefire, Boko Haram Continues Invasion Of Borno Towns

Suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect have overrun another Borno town, Kukawa, where they reportedly killed three persons and set some public buildings on fire.

Among the buildings set on fire were the headquarters of Kukawa local government area, a police station, government lodge, among others.

A resident of the town, Kaka Kukawa, called to tell journalists in Maiduguri that the terrorists invaded the town in numerous Hilux vehicles and motorcycles.

He said they headed straight for the police station and shut severally into the air and that the insurgents used Rocket Propelled Grenades.

“The insurgents razed down the Kukawa Divisional Police station and some public buildings in the town.” Kukawa said

“I cannot tell the casualty figure because we had to flee the town in fear of our lives,” he added.

Another resident of the town, Modu Mohammed, said they had to run out of the town due to the attack, adding that the terrorists killed three persons, burnt down Kukawa police station and government lodge.




     

     

    Mohammed further said many houses and other public buildings including clinic and vehiclesof a company exploring oil in the Chad Basin area were also razed.

    He added that the insurgents invaded the town at about 4:00 am and they had a smooth ride till about 10.00pm on Monday.

    According to him, they left the town after they were contented with the killing and the burning down of houses and vehicles.

    “The attack was a reprisal to an attack earlier attempt by the men of the Nigerian Police who were on routine patrol in the area and opened fire on the insurgents who were able to kill two policemen and they lost unverified number of people,” Mohammed claimed.
    The caretaker chairman of Kukawa local government area, Modu Musa, who confirmed the attack said the terrorists unleashed violence on the town killing many people, setting the whole town on fire, including over 300 vehicles.
