EKITI State governor Kayode Fayemi has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for simultaneous accreditation and voting in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Fayemi, who made the remarks after casting his vote at 9:40 am, described the development as a step in the right direction for Nigeria’s electoral system.

“We were used to a system where you come early, get accredited and come back later to vote, which makes the exercise more vigorous.
“However, the system has changed now to simultaneous voting and accreditation. I make bold to say that we are making progress in our electoral system,” he said.
Asked to give an assessment of the election, so far, the governor said it is still early.
“It is too early to give an overall assessment since we’ve just commenced the voting exercise. Let’s wait till the exercise comes to an end first.”
Fayemi also observed that the Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) has been efficient.
“I didn’t experience any difficulties with the BVAS machine when I voted with my card. This is a good development and I believe we will build on the recorded success to deepen our democracy,” he said.
Apart from Fayemi, some other notable political figures in the state have also cast their votes in the ongoing gubernatorial poll.
The senator representing Ekiti South Biodun Olujumi has voted.
Also, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Biodun Oyebanji cast his ballot at about 10.30 am at Polling Unit 003 Okele Ikogosi-Ekiti in West Local Government Area.
