Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa was on Thursday ratified as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s in the December 5 governorship election, having been presented as sole candidate in the race to represent the party.

Three other contestants had earlier been disqualified and a fourth withdrew, leaving the governor to have a smooth sail.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan led the endorsement by casting his vote before other delegates at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in the state capital, Yenagoa.

Chairman of the election panel and governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, said Dickson polled 447 out of 452 votes cast, with 5 invalidated.

Fayose said the peaceful conduct of the election showed that PDP is united.

“The election today shows that PDP is united; the transparency in the election is commendable. I must say that PDP will continue to be united not only in Bayelsa but Nigeria at large,” he said.

“The people of Bayelsa have decided to support good government of the PDP in the state. It is glaring today that the people want continuity for suitable development.”

Dickson thanked the delegates for their support and said he was committed to bringing more development to the state, adding that Deputy Governor John Jonah will remain his running mate.
