Kidnappers Of German Scholars In Kaduna Arrested


The Department of State Services, DSS, has said that it has arrested two suspects that allegedly took part in the kidnap of two German scholars in Kaduna State.

A statement by the DSS on Wednesday gave the names of the arrested suspects as Ibrahim Sule and Bello Shehu.

The two German archaeologists, Peter Breuning and Johannes Brehinger, were kidnapped on February 22 at the site where they were working in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The kidnappers shot and killed two locals who tried to follow them as they escaped on foot through a nearby bush path.

The Germans were later released and the police insisted that no ransom was paid for their freedom.

According to the DSS statement on Wednesday, the suspects were being questioned to establish other members of the network.

In a related development, the DSS also said that it arrested a Boko Haram kingpin, Adenoyi Abdulsalam, in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State on March 20.

A statement signed by one Tony Opuiyo, on behalf of the DSS, said that one Ak-47 rifle was recovered from the suspect, adding the he is currently undergoing more investigation.

Opuiyo also stated that the arrested Boko Haram suspect was planning to kidnap some high-level targets in Ekiti in order to raise funds with which to terrorise communities in the state.

    He said that the suspect was arrested by a joint military and DSS operation team.

    The statement also disclosed that another Boko Haram suspect, 29-year-old Usman Rawa, was also arrested in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on March 17.

    He narrated that Rawa had rented an accommodation in Lafia for one Abdullahi Isa, who was known for his notorious terrorist activities.

    “His plan is to establish an effective base to conduct terrorism, kidnapping and robbery operations in Abuja, Minna, and other adjoining states,” he said.
