The Nigerian military announced on Sunday that it had arrested a man believed to be a supplier of food and fuel to Boko Haram terrorists.

The man, whose name was not given, was reportedly arrested in Daban Shata, in the suburbs of Baga, Borno State.

This was made known in a statement issued by the director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, a Major General.

The defence spokesman said that the Boko Haram supplier had been on the radar of military intelligence operatives for a while before his arrest early Sunday.

He is said to be currently undergoing interrogation.

Olukolade also said that 260 women and children were located by Nigerian soldiers in the outskirts of Chalawa village in Adamawa State while trying to escape from Boko Haram insurgents.

The women and children, according to the defence spokesman, had been profiled and have since been returned to their various communities.

He said that a number of insurgents were killed by Nigerian troops in an encounter before the rescue of the women and children. Some escaped while others were captured and are being currently interrogated, Olukolade stated.

He added that some items were recovered from the terrorists, including one “machine gun, some rounds of ammunition, as well as some motorcycles and bicycles were also captured from the terrorists.”
