NCC moves to improve FG’s revenue from telecom sector

THE Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said it would use Revenue Assurance Solutions (RAS) to boost revenue going to the Federal Government from the telecommunications sector.

During the weekend, the NCC signed a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with its consultants, 3R Company Nigeria Limited, for the execution of the RAS solution.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC Umar Danbatta stated that this is a crucial measure to explore as resources at the government’s disposal continue to diminish.

“It is our belief that if we can be able to deploy RAS and ensure we get the true picture of what the Mobile Networks Operators (MNOs) are supposed to be paying by way of Annual Operating Levy (AOL), we would have accomplished an important milestone in the area of revenue generation for the Commission as well as for the government”, he said.

Danbatta said the deployment of RAS would improve monitoring and regulatory actions involving AOL administration in the telecommunications industry and grant higher levels of integrity on the AOL figures attainable in the industry.

The NCC Executive vice chairman lauded the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) for the advice given during the partnership process.

“I want to commend the Project Delivery Team (PDT), comprising staff of the Commission, who worked tirelessly in ensuring the project was brought to fruition, for their efforts and urged the 3R Company Nigeria Limited to ensure effective deployment and implementation of the project within its scope, objective and government’s expectations,” Danbatta added.

Chief Executive Officer of 3R Nigeria Limited, Raymond Wodi, commended the NCC for the chance to serve the industry and the government through the use of 3R’s technology solution to guarantee revenue generation from telecom licensees.

Wodi ensured the stakeholders that 3R is willing to fulfil and surpass expectations on the project.

RAS project is linked to the licensed telecommunications operators’ systems and will have the capacity to capture and report in real-time billing activities by the operators for the purposes of computing with little or no error the AOL payable to the NCC by the licensees.

The NCC RAS system will bring resolutions to the industry, and ensure effective monitoring and regulation of the licensed telecommunications operators.
