Osun guber poll: Ilesha residents troop out early to cast votes

AS early as 7 am, residents of Ilesha East Local Government Area (LGA) trooped out in hundreds to participate in today’s governorship election holding across the 30 LGAs of Osun State.

Residents came out early in large numbers to search for their names on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters list to be sure of their polling units.

About 1,955, 657 voters are expected to cast votes for candidates of their choice in the election.

At polling unit 004, ward 8, Isare, Ilesha East, jubilant voters were seen checking for their names on the voters register.

A visit to some polling units in the area revealed that at about 8 am security operatives and INEC officials were already on ground, in readiness for the poll.

As early as 7 am, The ICIR observed that most streets were filled with excited residents going to cast their votes.

A resident, Sunday Jegede, told The ICIR that the people of Osun are ready to cast their votes peacefully. He also said they are ready to defend their votes.




     

     

    “We are ready to vote today, we shall try to do it peacefully, and we shall defend our votes,” he said.

    At around 8 am, INEC adhoc staff were seen addressing the electorate as voting was about to commence at PU 001, Ward 1.

    About 1,305 registered voters are expected to vote at the PU 001, Ward 1, Ede South LGA, Osun West Senatorial District.

    The ICIR also observed that disagreement ensued between party agents and party supporters at PU 004, Ward 8, Isare, Ilesa East on the modalities for voting before police officers intervened.
