Sallah: Kano approves 10-day holiday for schools

THE Kano State Government has approved a ten-day holiday for schools in the state as Muslims worldwide celebrate the Eid-el Kabir festival.

Spokesperson of the Kano State Ministry of Education Aliyu Yusuf said in a statement that the holiday would begin on Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 17.

    But students participating in the NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS examinations and those on an exchange programme from other states at the Government Secondary School, Gwarzo, and Government Secondary School, Shekara, are to continue their examination and programme, respectively, during the period, according to the statement.

    The ministry directed all school heads to ensure boarding students return to school on July 17. Day students are to resume on July 18, the date for resumption of academic activities.

    The ministry further warned that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against defaulting students.

    As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government is yet to announce a public holiday for the Sallah celebration.
