82 Chibok girls released

Although the Nigerian government has denied it, reliable military intelligence sources told www.icirnigeria.org that 80 Boko Haram fighters and five commanders were released in exchange for the 82 girls released by the insurgency group last week.

A psychologist, Fatima Akilu, who has been involved in deradicalisation programmes for Boko Haram militants and women abducted by them, said some of the girls may have developed what she referred to as ‘Stockholm syndrome’ and chose to remain with their captors.

The Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the PDP had released a statement on Sunday saying that the decision to release Boko Haram fighters in exchange for the kidnapped girls was a bad idea.

The federal government has assured Nigerians that there was no need to worry about the Boko Haram suspects that were swapped in exchange for the 82 Chibok girls released on Saturday.
