Former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has called on the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, to have a rethink on its decision to deploy soldiers to The Gambia if incumbent President Yahya Jammeh refuses to step down at the expiration of his tenure on January 18.
The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has said that troops from the sub-region have been placed on alert to intervene in The Gambia if President Yahya Jammeh refuses to step down next month.
President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Banjul, the capital of The Gambia on Tuesday morning, as part of an ECOWAS delegation of Heads of States to meet with the Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, over his rejection of the presidential election which he lost.
The ECOWAS Convergence Council will hold an ordinary session on Friday in Abuja to determine the progress made so far in implementing the roadmap of the Community’s Single Currency Programme and adopt the macroeconomic convergence of member States.
