A non-governmental organization, Devatop Centre for Africa Development,has carried out an advocacy training exercise for 102 persons drawn from various sectors of the country on the need to end Female Genital Mutilation, FGM.
The United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF says Nigeria has the highest absolute number of female genital mutilation, as about 20 million women and girls in Nigeria have undergone female genital mutilation.
The United Nations has again called on government at all levels, civil society organisations, as well as traditional and religious leaders to join together and end the scourge of Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting in Nigeria.
