Tems, Tyla win big at 2024 BET awards + full list of winners

NIGERIAN superstar, Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, and South African Grammy award winner, Tyla Laura Seethal, have won big at the 2024 edition of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.

The awards event held at Peacock Theater at Los Angeles on Sunday, June 30.

Tems won the award for her song, ‘Me & U’ in the category of Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award over other international artistes, including Shirley Caesar, Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, Maverick City Music, Naomi Raine & Chandler Moore, Halle Bailey, and CeCe Winans.

Also, South African Grammy award winner, Tyla Laura Seethal, won the award of Best International Act over other Africans in the category including, Ayra Starr, Asake and Focalistic.

Despite leading the Nigerian contingent with three nominations, Ayra Starr did not win any award.

Other Nigerian artistes who did not win the award included Burna Boy, Davido, and Seyi Vibez, who received his first BET nominations.

The award was established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television to honour black entertainers and other minorities in philanthropy, music, film, and sports.
