The Senate of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, has stripped former Vice Chancellor of the institution, Andrew Onokerhoraye, of his appointment as Professor Emeritus.
The decision to strip Onokerhoraye of the honour, which was taken at the special meeting of the Senate held on Wednesday was contained in a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Harris Osarenren.
The statement point out alleged refusal of Onokerhoraye to attend meetings and carry out his responsibilities as Professor Emeritus in the university as reasons his removal.
“The action of the Senate which has been hailed by a cross section of the University of Benin
community was influenced by the facts that he had defaulted in carrying out his
responsibilities as Prof. Emeritus”, the statement stated.
“More importantly, Senate observed with dismay, that since his appointment as Professor Emeritus, he was never present at all meeting,” the statement further said.
Onokerhoraye was appointed Professor Emeritus in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, Faculty of Social Sciences by the Senate of the institution at its meeting held on Tuesday, 26 October 2010.
