Yobe Govt Places Additional 49 Medical Students On Payroll

The Yobe State governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has approved for an additional 49 medical students currently enrolled in institutions of higher learning in various parts of the world to be placed on monthly salary Grade Level 07.

This will bring the total number of approved salaried medical students by the state to 153 from an initial 104 medical students in June this year.

Special adviser to the state governor on press affairs and information, Abdullahi Bego, said all medical students currently sponsored by the state government will automatically be absorbed for employment after obtaining their medical degrees.

Bego said the action was in line with efforts to re-position the state’s healthcare sector and ensure steady supply of quality manpower.

He added that the state government had also recently employed 52 nurses who had successfully passed their Nursing and Midwifery Council Examinations.

According to the special adviser, the state government is presently processing other applications from medical students willing to benefit from the scheme.

“The Gaidam administration will continue on this track, taking all measures necessary to ensure a healthcare system which provides quality and affordable care for the people of the state,” Bego stated.
