As the eid-el-fitri festival was marked by Muslim faithful across the country, residents of Kano State were plunged into another round of grief and mourning on Sunday afternoon following an explosion around the St. Charles Catholic Church in the Sabon Gari area of the state, which killed at least five persons.
The dead victims comprised of two women, two men and a soldier; while eight others were said to have sustained injuries, some, seriously.
The Kano State police command says it has arrested three suspects in connection with the explosion.
In another development still in Kano, a female suicide bomber died a lone death after the explosives she had strapped around herself under the covers of an hijab, detonated.
According to Police spokesman Frank Mba, the girl, about 16 years of age was spotted by very vigilant Police officers walking towards the gate of the North-East University in a very suspicious manner.

Mba said a few minutes after she was isolated, the explosives neatly strapped around her body and concealed in her hijab went off, killing her and injuring about five Police officers.
Investigation into the incident has commenced, while the Policemen, none of whom sustained life-threatening injuries are receiving treatment at the hospital.
