Insecurity: Nigeria Clamps Down On Illegal Alliens

By Iro Dan Fulani

The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Adamawa State command on Thursday arrested 45 suspected illegal aliens in Yola.

Adamawa, one of the three North east states under emergency rule, is bordered in the North by Niger Republic

Speaking while parading the suspects in Yola, the Controller of the NIS in the state, Rauf Adeboyega, said the arrest was part of the renewed efforts to check the influx of aliens in the border state.

Adeboyega said the arrested foreigners comprising 36 men and nine women were from neighboring countries and that they would soon be deported.

“We are not saying that foreigners should not come into the country but when they are coming they should come with their valid documents so that we will be able to identify them.

“It will make our job of monitoring their activities in the country easier”, Adeboyega said.

He lauded the support of the public particularly community leaders in exposing such aliens, adding that with the current security challenges the public need to be security conscious and support security agencies.

The controller also lauded the level of collaboration between the NIS and other security organizations in the state in identifying such aliens.
