The Nigerian Army has confirmed that Enitan Ransome-Kuti, a Brigadier General, was dismissed and jailed for failure to perform military duties and offences relating to military property when troops under his command deserted their duty post at Baga, Borno State, when they were attacked in January by Boko Haram insurgents.
Enitan, son of late Beko Ransome-Kuti, a popular civil society activist, was accused of cowardly behaviour, negligence of duty and other offences.
According to army spokesperson, Sani Usman, the court found Enitan, who was head of the Multinational Joint Task Force, was, however, cleared of the charge of cowardly behaviour.
“He was found guilty on Count Charge Number Two which was “Failure to Perform Military Duties” and was Dismissed from the Nigerian Army,” Usman said, adding that the six months imprisonment was for the third count, “Miscellaneous Offences Relating to Service Property”.
