The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday suspended the screening of 16 commissioner-nominees recommended for confirmation by governor Tanko Al-Makura for security reasons.
The House took the decision following a motion by a legislator, Daniel Ogazi, representing Kokona East, who told his colleagues of an alleged attack on him and threat to other members while on official assignment.
Ogazi said the attack posed a security risk to the lives of all the lawmakers, urging the assembly to suspend the screening exercise.
Ogazi, who doubles as the chairman of the committee on Education, said that adequate security must be provided to the legislators in view of the threat to their lives.
Mohammed Muluku, who represents Nassarawa Eggon East, seconded the motion, urging the assembly to accept the prayers contained in the motion after also expressing his concern.
The House unanimously adopted the motion to suspend further screening of the commissioner-nominees pending the guarantee of their safety.
