It's eerily quiet in Banjul, capital of The Gambia, on Thursday as tension mounts on what will become of President Yahya Jammeh’s refusal to handover power even after the expiration of the deadline set by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
The Gambia's parliament has voted to approve a 90-day state of emergency declared by President Yahya Jammeh, as well as the extension of the President’s tenure by 90 days.
Select leaders of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has reiterated the resolve of the entire sub-region that President of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, must quit office at the expiration of his tenure, having lost the presidential election held in the country in December.
President Muhammadu Buhari will host some African leaders in Abuja on Monday in his capacity as the mediator in the current crisis rocking The Gambia following the refusal of President Yahya Jammeh to accept the presidential election which held in the country in December.
