Three military officers collapse during Democracy Day parade

THREE military officers collapsed during the Democracy Day parade at the Eagles Square in Abuja on Monday.

The officers were standing under the sun for hours before the event begun.

They collapsed one after the other at different stages of the parade when the event eventually started.

It is believed that the officers collapsed as a result of exhaustion.

Medical personnel at the scene moved the officers to a medical shed where they were revived.

The celebration continued with performances from various arms of the Armed Forces and the police.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and other dignitaries had converged at the Eagles Square to mark the 2022 Democracy Day on Monday.

The Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff Farouk Yahaya, Chief of Naval Staff Awwal Gambo and Chief of Air Staff Isiaka Oladayo Amao, as well as the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba were in attendance.

Others present include members of the President’s cabinet and some members of the National Assembly.

The Democracy Day Parade is an annual event held to commemorate Nigeria’s return to civilian rule.
