2023: Ebonyi will vote for Tinubu, says Umahi

EBONYI State governor Dave Umahi has said the people of the state will vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

Umahi, who spoke on Monday, said the people of Ebonyi will not vote for Labour Party (LP) flagbearer Peter Obi.

Obi is adjudged as the most prominent presidential aspirant from the South-East.

“Our agenda is Ebonyi agenda. We will vote for our presidential candidate in the person of Tinubu. We must strive to liberate Ebonyi State and that is our agenda.”

Umahi on Saturday accused APC delegates from the South-East of trading their votes during the party’s recent presidential primary election.

The governor contested and lost the APC presidential primary election, which was won by Tinubu.

The governor said that several appeals he made to the delegates to put the South-East first during voting at the convention did not yield any fruit.

“I had a series of meetings with the party’s chairmen in the five states of the zone in the company of its national vice chairman.

“I implored the delegates that the issue was not about me but the mood of the Igbos in the nation. I implored that they should vote for any aspirant from the Southeast so that when the votes are counted, we would not be missing.”

The Ebonyi governor said the people of the South-East should stop complaining about marginalisation since they could not support someone like him with their voters.

Umahi also accused the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide George Obiozor of abandoning the South-East President project.

“Prof. Obiozor could not stand for Igbos when it mattered so much. It is a very big shame. I have no confidence in him and he is no longer my President,” Umahi said.
