Presidency Dispels Rumours About Buhari’s Health

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has described as false the rumours that State Governors will hold a meeting in Abuja on Thursday to discuss the health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mohammed made this known when members of the Presidential Initiative Committee on the North-East paid him a visit at his office in Abuja.

He said that there was no need for the visit, as the President was only observing his leave as stated in the letter sent to the Senate before leaving the country.

He clarified that there was nothing like a governors’ meeting, also adding that the governors were not planning to send representatives to London to ascertain the President’s state of health.

There had been rumours mainly in the social media to the effect that governors from various states of the federation were pressurizing Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to resign as Acting President for Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate.

However, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Affairs, Babafemi Ojudu, in a statement on Wednesday, described the story as fabricated.

Ojudu said: “I have read many ridiculous stories saying that Osinbajo is being held hostage by some governors, who are trying to compel him to resign.

“I have equally received several calls regarding this. The story is simply not true. It is a fabrication. Don’t be a purveyor of fake news.”

Similarly, Senate President Bukola Saraki, debunked the false report which also stated that the governors want Saraki to become the president when Osinbanjo must have resigned.

The Senate President asked the authors of the rumour not to drag his name into such baseless insinuations.

“It is a good thing that the Presidency had dismissed the speculation and showed that there is no substance to it,” Saraki said.

“However, I feel it should be known that those behind this baseless, empty and unintelligent mischief are those who do not love this country.”
