Unavailable, Amapiano, others make Obama’s 2023 favourite song

AFROBEATS songs, ‘Unavailable’, ‘Amapiano’, ‘Sittin on top of the world’ and ‘Me & U have all made the list of former United States (US) president Barrack Obama’s favourite songs in 2023.

On December 29, the former president shared his annual playlist of favourite songs for 2023. Taking to his official Instagram, he revealed his top songs in a post he shared.

“Here are some of my favourite songs from this year. Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out,” he stated.

This year’s list has yet again included several Afrobeats hits, highlighting the growing global influence of the genre.

While the list included songs of A-list artistes from America and other parts of the world, Nigerian songs from artistes including Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Asake, among others equally made the list.

Burna Boy’s ‘Sitting on top of the world’ featuring 21 Savage, Davido’s hit song, ‘Unavailable’ featuring Musa Keys  from his ‘Timeless’ album and ‘Amapiano’ by Asake featuring Olamide all made the list. These songs were also nominated for the 2024 Grammy awards. Similarly, Tems’ latest single, ‘Me & U’ also made the list.

In 2022, three Nigerian stars, including Burna Boy, Rema and Ayra Star made it to Obama’s list of top 25 favourite songs.

Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated single, ‘Last Last’, Ayra Star’s ‘Rush’ and the widely acclaimed ’Calm Down’ by Rema, also made the list.

With the yearly inclusion of Afrobeats songs on Obama’s playlist, it is a testament to the genre’s growing popularity and impact on the world music scene.
