In January, The ICIR reported that CBN dissolved the board and management of Keystone Bank along with two other banks for various infractions.

The infractions included regulatory non-compliance, corporate governance failure, and involvement in activities threatening financial stability.

According to CBN, the action became necessary due to the non-compliance of the bank and its respective board with the provisions of Section 12(c), (f), (g), (h) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, 2020.

It was necessary to assure the public of the safety and security of depositors’ funds, and in fulfilling its mandate to uphold a safe, sound, and robust financial system in Nigeria.

Following the dissolution of Keystone Bank’s board, the apex bank subsequently appointed new executives to take leadership positions.

Hassan Imam, the CEO and managing director of Keystone Bank, was among the other directors appointed then by the CBN.
