A collation centre in Ogoja constituency, Cross Rivers, was attacked by hoodlums on Sunday, March 18, while the collation of election results was ongoing.

The state police spokesperson Irene Ugbo, confirmed the attack.

ICIR learnt that the hoodlums carted away phones, beat up many ward collation officers and disrupted the collation of results.

According to one of the collation officers attacked, Paul Bassey Inyang, the incident was triggered by a disagreement between party agents over the figures of the governorship election result for Nkum Irede ward.

Nkum Irede Ward’s result was the seventh out of the ten wards in Ogoja council and the Peoples Democratic Party was leading.

Inyang said the hoodlums that attacked the centre were over 30 in number.

He said his laptop and duplicate result sheets were all destroyed.

“One of my colleagues is still being treated in the theatre and I pray he comes out alive as heavy stones and planks were used on him,” he said.

2023 Governorship Poll: LP vows to resist attempt to upturn its ‘governorship victory’ in Abia, Enugu

0

THE Labour Party (LP) chairman, Julius Abure, has vowed to resist what he called attempts by the governors of Abia and Enugu states to thwart the outcome of the elections in the two states, which he said were in favour of the LP.

Abure made this known in a statement he personally signed today and obtained by The ICIR.

Abure claimed that “INEC staff are held hostage at Obingwa Local Govt by Governor Ikpeazu and his cohorts to rewrite the results already compiled by INEC officials despite an order from the election body asking their staff to head to Umuahia to collate results for the election, which is in favour of Labour’s Alex Otti.”

He alleged that what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had been found doing was not different from “the criminality orchestrated against our presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, during the February 25 presidential election.”

The LP chairman called on the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and ensure the transfer of all electoral materials to Umuahia where he believed the sanctity of the election and the safety of the officials in charge can be guaranteed.

He threatened that if this was not addressed, LP would be left with no choice than to mobilise “Obidients” all over the country to take over the streets across the length and breadth of the country.
