THE presidential campaign team for Omoyele Sowore, the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the just concluded 2019 presidential election in Nigeria, has published its statement of account.
Sowore, who is also the founder and publisher of Sahara Reporters, an online media platform, shared the detailed account with his over 150,000 Facebook followers on Sunday.
It was necessary for Sowore to have published his campaign’s statement of account because he had opened a go-fund-me account with which he asked for donations in support of his presidential ambition, hence the need to explain to his donors how their monies were put to use.
“Thousands of you donated your time, skills, energy and funds to our epic campaign. This document is a thorough accounting of the funds that were donated and the uses to which they were put by the campaign,” read the document which was signed by Sowore and Malcolm Fabiyi, the Director-General of the ‘Take it Back Movement’ as the campaign was codenamed.
“We staged hundreds of events in Nigeria and around the world, giving voice to the powerful yearnings of our people for true and positive change.
“Only the financial donations that were received are captured in this document. Although the tens of thousands of volunteer hours that many of you put into the Sowore 2019 effort might never be captured on paper, the impact of those donations-in-kind was felt all over Nigeria.
“To all those who gave generously of their time and energies, we say THANK YOU. Stand with us as we continue to work towards Taking Nigeria back.”
In total, the Sowore campaign had an income of N157,884,936.98 and an expenditure of N157,805,799.40, leaving a closing balance of N79,137.28

On the election day proper, Sowore won his own polling unit, quite a feat given that former Vice President Abubakar Atiku who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost his own polling unit to President Muhammadu Buhari.
