2023: PDP to screen VP candidates on Thursday

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the composition of a committee to screen its prospective vice presidential candidates for the 2023 presidential election.

Top contenders for the party’s VP slot are the Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike and his Delta State counterpart Ifeanyi Okowa.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate during the primary election in Abuja last month.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last week announced June 17, 2022 as the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their presidential candidates and running mates.

Consequently, the PDP, in a statement released on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, announced the constitution of the Vice Presidential Candidate Screening Committee (VPSC).




     

     

    The constitution of the committee was in line with Part VI, Paragraph 14 of the party’s Electoral Guidelines.

    Membership of the VPSC was approved by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

    According to the statement, the screening exercise will hold at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

    The screening committee is to be chaired by Tom Ikimi and members include Osita Chidoka, Binta Bello, Austin Opara, Idris Wada, Fidelis Tapgun and Aisha Madawaki.
