APC candidate rejects Soludo’s re-election victory, says supporters victimised, arrested

0

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in last Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has dismissed the victory of the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chukwuma Soludo, a professor, in the election.

Ukachukwu, who briefed journalists in Awka on Sunday, November 9, in reaction to Soludo’s victory said the election was riddled with intimidation, violence against his supporters, most of whom he said sustained injuries, lost homes and vehicles.

He said he had spoken with his supporters and would also consult with party stakeholders across the state before making a statement on his next move.

He said: “We thank members of our team, they are all gallant soldiers. They are all winners in different ways, including those who were intimidated in many ways, their cars burnt, houses burnt, even my deputy, who was intimidated into running for her dear life when they threatened her. All these people are winners,” he stated.

He informed that he was still collating information about what happened on the election day, and we would talk at the right time.

“Some of my agents were abducted by our opponents and kept until after the election. All these things are not worth talking about now. At this point, we are still collating information both from our party agents, and I have to consult my party to know what’s next,” he noted.

Ukachukwu said the money meant for payment of party agents was termed vote “vote-buying money” by the authorities during the poll.

“They arrested my supporter who was to pay our agents, saying he was carrying money meant for vote buying. Can I buy votes against a sitting governor who has the state treasury? The result of the election will show you who bought votes. If I bought a vote, it would have reflected on the number of votes that I got,” he further said.

The APC candidate also alleged that all the people arrested on the election day were APC members.

“Go and see the young lady whose house was burnt in Anambra East. Her only crime was that she believed in our party and canvases for our victory,” he alleged.

He added, “But for me to have 99,000 genuine votes is even unprecedented. Those are people who voted because Anambra must go forward.

“The number of votes I got is enough to tell them that APC can no longer be ignored in Anambra. Those 99,000 people are the people who voted for us; they are part of those I will consult about our next move. Those are people who believe Anambra must be better. Today, they cannot say that APC is not in existence in Anambra because 99,000 is not a small number.”

The ICIR reported that Soludo, the incumbent governor, won the Anambra State governorship election with 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes.

CLAIM 1

CLAIM: The ADC coalition shared an image of a Ghana-Must-Go bag stuffed with money on X (archived here) as evidence of “collusion everywhere” in the election; that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) “turned the process into a heist and pushed out the coalition.”

FINDINGS: A reverse image check reveals that the image of the “Ghana Must Go” bag shared by ADC is unrelated to the just-concluded election. The image is from 2019, when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seized cash during a patrol against vote-buying in Makurdi, Benue State.  Although there have been reports of vote buying, Premium Times and Sahara TV posted the exact picture on Mar. 9, 2019.

Messy marriage: Ned Nwoko, Regina Daniels make more drug abuse, domestic violence claims

0

THE senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, and his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, have engaged in a heated exchange as their marital crisis deepens, amid allegations of drug use and harassment.

In response to Daniels’ persistent calls for justice and the release of her elder brother, allegedly detained on Nwoko’s order, from detention, the senator took to his X handle on Saturday, accusing Sammy, Daniels’ brother, of harassing his children and domestic staff.

He claimed that he had transferred approximately N125 million to Regina’s mother over the past two years and he had financed Sammy’s last two years at the University of Ekpoma, covering expenses for musical instruments and an apartment in Abuja.

“These videos show Sammy, Regina’s brother, repeatedly coming to my home and harassing my children and domestic staff, especially whenever I was not around. His visits were often aggressive and disruptive,” he wrote.

The ICIR reports that this development stemmed from the duo’s marital crisis that surfaced in a viral video showing Daniels, a Nollywood actress, in a confrontation at her marital home on October 18, accusing the senator of domestic violence.

In reaction to the video, Nwoko took to his social media handle accusing his wife of violence against domestic staff and long-term drug abuse. He said the drugs had affected her health.

Nigerians flooded social media with divided opinions. Some accused Nwoko of using drug allegations to divert attention from domestic-violence claims. Others urged both parties to seek professional help and avert the stigma the public fights could cause their children, while others advised the government to investigate them for domestic violence and drug-related offences.

Days later, the actress’s brother, Sammy, was arrested in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, arraigned in court, and remanded pending the fulfillment of bail conditions.

Amid the public dispute, Regina celebrated the reconciliation of her estranged parents, noting that her mother and father, long separated, reunited following her personal and family crisis, particularly her brother’s arrest.

In a series of emotional videos shared online, the actress revealed feeling overwhelmed by fear, pressure, and uncertainty over her brother’s safety.

Her heartfelt messages have drawn widespread concern on social media, with fans, family members, and fellow entertainers calling for Sammy’s release and urging both sides to ease the escalating tension.

The senator, in his latest post, further alleged that Sammy not only introduced Regina to drugs and sabotaged her rehabilitation but also recounted an incident in which Sammy reportedly arrived at his residence at 4 a.m., demanding a face-to-face meeting after being asked to remove his girlfriend from the house.

“Just four weeks ago, I woke up around 4 a.m. and realised that Regina was in my room and on the phone. She was clearly high… I told Regina that the girl had to leave, and one of my drivers dropped her off. Thirty minutes later, Sammy came to my house shouting and demanding that I come downstairs to face him.

“I eventually went downstairs and had to instruct the security to physically push him out of my compound. The level of audacity was shocking. Without the influence of drugs, could he have been so bold and disrespectful?” Nwoko queried.

He insisted that his attempts to assist Regina in her recovery caused friction with her family.

‎“In fact, Lawrence and Sammy were the ones who first introduced and supplied these drugs to her. They were deeply involved in the habit themselves, and rather than helping her get better, they kept drawing her back into the same destructive lifestyle.

“Unfortunately, Sammy, Destiny, and some of her friends constantly defied those instructions. They would sneak in and bring her the same drugs she was being treated for,” he argued.

The senator defended his decision to involve law enforcement, saying that Sammy “needs professional rehabilitation and guidance, not sympathy,” while denying allegations that anyone was beaten. He described the video claiming the accused was beaten as “a pure Nollywood scenario filmed in front of my house, in my absence,” staged to discredit him.

Responding to Nwoko’s claims on her Instagram page Sunday morning, Daniels acknowledged past drug use but dismissed her estranged husband’s allegations as exaggerated, manipulative, and intended to damage her reputation.

“Ned, how could you lie so openly and without even small remorse? You know my family has absolutely nothing to do with this… and now you are trying to make them look bad for no reason.

“Fine, I did drugs. So what? Is that even the issue between us? The moment we had a fight, you rushed to the public, shouting ‘drugs, drugs, drugs,’ because you knew it would make a perfect story for the media — something dramatic enough to distract everyone from the real issue!,” she wrote.

She maintained that her drug use was not the cause of their marital problems, accusing the senator of isolating her by targeting her friends and family.

“You want to find a reason to arrest everyone around me so that I will have no one left beside me… Then, when I’m completely isolated and broken, I will be forced to come back to you because I will have nowhere else to go,” she added.

While rejecting Nwoko’s claims that her behavior was erratic, she also alleged that he had encouraged her drug use for his satisfaction.

“You have never seen me act incoherent, stumble, or lose control… Stop using the ‘drugs’ story to create a distraction. Tell people the truth.

“You say you want me to go for rehab, but you are the same Ned who always wanted me high because, in your words, I’m ‘sexier’ when I’m high. You liked me that way because it made me wild and romantic exactly how you wanted me to be,” she wrote.

Daniels further accused him of sexual assault, confinement, and medical manipulation, alleging that he confiscated her phones and coerced doctors into giving her sedatives whenever she resisted.

“Why don’t you tell them how you lock me up and have doctors inject me with drugs meant for people with bipolar disorder? You seize my phones for weeks because you hate that I talk to my family a lot,” she added.

Regina stated that there was no legal marriage between them, adding that her time with Nwoko had cost her crucial years and career opportunities.

“No matter how much you think you spent on me, it can never equal the value of the time I gave you, my prime years, my energy, and the career opportunities I sacrificed while being with you.

“And for the record, I would have filed for divorce long ago if there had ever been a legal marriage between us. We were never married in any court of law… Leave me alone, Ned. Marriage is not by force. Love is not by force,” she said.

This result gives the APC candidate a landslide victory in his polling unit. It marks a decisive victory for the APC flag bearer in his home area, where voter turnout was described as moderate by observers.

Ukachukwu is one of the 16 candidates vying for the governorship seat in the state.

Vote counting is still ongoing across the state with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expected to announce official results once counting concludes at ward and local government levels.

The ICIR reported that the Labour Party candidate, George Moghalu, lost his polling unit to the APGA candidate.

The Anambra governorship election has drawn national attention, as it is the first major poll to be conducted under the new INEC chairman, Joash Amupitan.

As collation continues, the final results are expected to provide a clearer picture of voter sentiment across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Tanzanian government plans opposition leaders arrest after protests

TANZANIAN authorities are planning the arrest of opposition leaders accused of instigating the violent protests that erupted across the country during last week’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to Reuters, the police released a list of 10 wanted individuals in a statement on Saturday, November 8, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the unrest, a day after prosecutors filed treason charges against 145 suspects.

“The Police Force, in collaboration with other defence and security agencies, is continuing a serious manhunt to find all who planned, coordinated and executed this evil act,” the organisation said.

According to the statement, those wanted for arrest include CHADEMA’s Secretary-General, John Mnyika; his deputy, Amaan Golugwa; and the party’s Head of Communications, Brenda Rupia.

The main opposition party, CHADEMA, along with several human rights activists, have claimed that security forces killed over 1,000 people but the government dismissed the figures as exaggerated, without providing its own official death toll.

CHADEMA leader, Tundu Lissu, who was charged with treason in April, was barred from contesting the election, a move, along with the disqualification of another major opposition candidate, that has fueled the ongoing protests.

The electoral commission announced incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the winner, securing nearly 98 per cent of the votes. She took the oath of office on Monday.

Observers from the African Union described the election as lacking credibility, citing evidence of ballot box stuffing. The government, however, rejected the allegations, insisting that the election was free and fair.

In the statement released on Saturday, police detailed for the first time the scale of the unrest, saying violent protests erupted on October 29 in the cities of Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, and Mbeya, as well as several other regions across the country.

Police confirmed that people were injured during the violence but did not provide further details, adding that both private and public property including ATMs and government offices were vandalised.

The ICIR reported that the main opposition party had claimed that 700 people were lost to the protests.

Soludo alleges vote buying in Anambra governorship election

0

ANAMBRA State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has alleged vote buying in parts of Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the election holding today, Saturday, November 8, made the claim while addressing journalists after casting his vote at Polling Unit 002, Ofiyi Ward 13, Aguata Local Government Area.

He expressed confidence in his chances of winning while condemning what he described as electoral malpractice.

“We have intelligence reports about massive vote buying in the Nnewi South axis. Some candidates are offering N50,000. Despite this, I am confident of winning all 21 local government areas of the state,” he said.

Soludo also urged voters to exercise their civic rights without succumbing to monetary inducement.

Meanwhile, The ICIR reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate Soludo for promising cash rewards to supporters whose wards deliver victories for APGA in the election.

The controversy arose following the governor’s pledge during a campaign rally in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, on October 25, to offer financial rewards to wards that voted overwhelmingly for him.

“When we were campaigning for the Senate, we knew we were going to win every ward in the South Senatorial Zone, but we still had some incentives. Any ward that APGA won received ₦1 million, and we won all the wards in Orumba South,” Soludo was quoted to have said.

“We promised each of these wards ₦1 million, and next week, we will redeem it. The ward that comes first will get ₦5 million, the second ₦3 million, and the third ₦2 million. For November 8, any ward that wins again will receive ₦1 million, while the first three performing wards will get ₦5 million, ₦2 million, and ₦1 million respectively.”

[BREAKING] Anambra: LP’s George Moghalu loses polling unit

THE Labour Party (LP) candidate in the Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has lost his polling unit.

He lost to the incumbent Governor Charles Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)

Moghalu polled 22 votes to trail Soludo, who won 57 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ukachukwu Nicholas, garnered five votes.

At the Polling Unit 017, Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi North Local Government Area, there were 463 registered voters, out of which 86 were accredited.

The ongoing election has so far been peaceful. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) data, 2,802,790 registered voters across 21 Local Government Areas, 326 political wards, and 5,718 polling units were to participate in the exercise.

The INEC data further shows that over 1.7 million voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while more than 7,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) were deployed for the election.

The ICIR reported that the electoral body had cleared 16 candidates from various political parties to vie for the highest political office in the state, including APGA’s Soludo, APC’s Nicholas, Moghalu’s LP, and Ezenwafor Jude of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)
